Parents Vs Teenagers By Presley Schiberl Over at my house, even though it is just my mom and I, she has rules that I must abide by. These rules are extrordinarily important to me, as well as my mom. Usually, we don't have a lot of rules, but when we do, I do my best to follow along. Rules for me aren't like, 'Don't run in the house!' or 'Don't stay up after eleven!'. We understand that many different families have many different rules, so I try to agree with her rule making decisions. One of her rules is 'No driving the car after eight!' I completely understand this rule, mostly because she does not want me to get pulled over by the cops. It's not so much of me driving without a license, it's me getting pulled over, just to have the cop say I'm too young for driving. Then I have to pull out my license and prove him wrong. Mostly if a cop pulls me over, and he/she checks my license, and finds it legitimate, they are going to have a vendetta against me for making them look like idiots. Another rule I must abide by is that I'm not allowed to date till I'm eighteen. I do not agree with this rule, because I should not have to wait to go out with someone if I want. I understand that she wants me to focus on my academic work, and less on personal desires. She probably does not want me to do things I ought not do until I'm married. That part I understand. One of the most important rules in the history of important rules in my house is that I don't dare watch any movies that are rated R. Usually one would understand this rule, but consequently, I don't. Movies are made the way they are made, and they are meant to be seen, not denied by moms just because of a little foul language. I've only ever seen The Green Mile on FX, when I wanted to see the uncensored version. All in all, most of her rules are agreeable. Some of them I would not suggest in a household, but that is not my decision, it is hers. I like to consider myself lucky because I don't have as many rules as many other families do. My mom is as sharp as a tack, and whatever she wants for me, it is probably best for me.
